“The Show”: Leonel García’s new solo chapter

“The Show”: Leonel García’s new solo chapter

Mexican singer -songwriter Leonel García surprises with a new album titled "El Show," an unexpected production that comes shortly after his recent works "Pausa" (2024) and " ARENBI ," his tribute to R&B. Despite having a new tour with Sin Bandera on the way, García decided to prioritize his solo career and release an intimate and reflective album.

“I think the people who follow my career as a singer-songwriter deserve a new release before I embark on the Sin Bandera tour,” he declared in an interview. “I want to take advantage of the fact that I have desire, the energy, the things I have to say, and make it clear to people that my career as a singer-songwriter is my priority right now,” he added.

“El Show” was composed in late 2023 and recorded at Sony Music studios, just outside Mexico City, with the participation of live musicians.

Featured Collaborations

One of the album's most moving moments is "Desierto," a song featuring Natalia Lafourcade . The two artists recorded together in the studio, creating a unique connection.

“We looked into each other's eyes and listened to each other while the other sang, and I think that gave the track a sense of life and reality,” García said.

The song addresses the aftermath of a toxic relationship that leaves emptiness and sadness in a new partner: “It destroys you because they come empty, they come hurt, they're not well, they're not healthy, emotionally speaking,” the singer-songwriter explained.

The title track, "El Show," is a collaboration with young musician Arath Herce, whom García deeply admires: "He's a very artistically mature guy, he writes very good songs, and he's a great performer. He's going to surprise a lot of people." Also featured on the album are singer Ivana and regional music icon Edén Muñoz, broadening the album's sound spectrum.

25 years of history and a new chapter

Along with his solo project, García confirmed that Sin Bandera is already working on his next album with Noel Schajris, with whom he founded the duo 25 years ago. This new work reflects the maturity of both artists: "Thinking more as men who have lives as fathers, as couples... That's what the album is going to be about, presenting scenes from life: fatherhood, love, friendship, abandonment, happiness," he explained.

Regarding the duo's longevity, García emphasized the importance of breaks: "We feel like Sin Bandera happens when we want it to, when there's energy and excitement surrounding it. That's also why we need to rest it, to keep it healthy."

With five Latin With a Grammy to his name, both solo and with Sin Bandera, Leonel García reaffirms his commitment to music and his audience. "El Show" is proof that he still has a lot to say, even amidst a busy schedule.
